My paintings are containers of time. The tiers viewed through transparent layers of color and patterns come together and form a whole. I look at the passage of time as a process condensed and compressed like a double exposure photograph. The end result allows multiple moments to appear at once.
The painting starts out as a thin layer of lines forming a grid. More layers are applied as organic and geometric shapes vie for dominance. My original ideas for the piece give way to where the painting needs to go and unexpected shapes, color combinations and patterns collect and assert themselves. I’m mining my long history of painting and experiencing the world. I respect the process of discovery and beauty of the materials as my work continues to parallel my life.
