The Mother's Blessing
Oil, Spray Enamel, Metal Leaf, Patina, Craquelure, Rust on Canvas

Throughout art history the fleur de lis, and similarly the cruciform, have been symbols of purity, and saintliness. Likewise, I include these symbols, floating above the horizon, in the context of this ancient, yet contemporary shoreline of land, sea and sky. They refer to the pristine delicate nature of this place, the refuge it has been for peoples past and present, and a reminder that we, too must tread lightly and with thanks, for our Mother Earth.
Handcrafted wood frame with copper detail and black edging.
