Nouakchott is part of the Sahara Desert. The streets are sand. It is blistering hot. Two or three times a week I walked a path to my Arabic class, (assalamu alaikum) and always waved to these schoolgirls. One day curiosity got the better of them. Where was I from? What was I doing in Mauritania? They asked me to sketch them. A large painting of this sketch is held in a private collection.
